Smile

I am elated, darlings.

I owned media studies! Honestly i had never experienced such a fastanstic examination. It was like a smooth, broad road winding through a rustic, scenic mountainside. And i breezed through it.

MCQs were ridiculous, as expected. 8 exact repetitions of past year questions, with only two new questions. Essay questions were pretty much the same, too. News values, Truman Show and sports. I just wrote and wrote and I had never felt so good writing essays.

I thank god (yes, i did some last minute buddha leg-hugging. if you don't understand, enroll in mandarin class!) for showering me with blessings. Thanks to mum, too, for driving me all the way to Klang for my last minute buddha leg-hugging session in the first place.

And to the people who wished me luck. Expect a free drink from me if i score well: A high D (relatively high marks for a D grade), or HD perhaps. XD

In addition to my marvellous exam, Prita from Monash's Admin office gave me a call on Tuesday telling me that i had won some lucky draw.

Some of you might remember filling in this little blue form last sem while doing the MonQuest lecturer evaluation, and i think it was during marketing. I won the $20 gift card. LoL. Which is around 60 bucks here. A meagre amount compared to the grand prize of 3500 aussie dollars (or the iPod shuffles and wtf is an iPaq?), but hey am not complaining. =)

Was telling Prita that i never had much lucky-draw luck. But this! Proved me wrong.
The gift card was for Coles Myer, an Australian shop not available here. So instead of a $20 gift card, i got 58 bucks in cash. Not too shabby. I like. Mwahaha.

Oil?

2.70/l

disastrous ain't it?

naturally those fucked-up kiasu fellers* went flocking to petrol stations in hopes of saving some money, causing a tremendous traffic jam. Petrol stations were packed. My god. it's time to ride bicycles.

*i was almost one of them until i realized, when i arrived at Mobil, that my petrol tank was full wtfffff.

Petrol to cost RM2.70 from 5th June 2008

The new price for petrol is RM2.70 a litre with effective 5th June 2008 as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as part of the new fuel subsidy plan. The price goes up by 40% from the previous RM1.92 a litre.

There's nothing I can do about the price hike but I am confused with the behavior of Malaysians precisely for my case - Penangites.

I won't deny that a 40% increase is a lot of money but that amount of money can show us many ugly sides of Malaysians. I'm just very frustrated when almost all the roads are congested because of the few ringgits they wanna save. I dont get it... does that few ringgits worth all the troubles?

For that few ringgits, you got yourself in a very uptight situation - you raced through the traffic, waiting in line to get your tank filled up behind some 30 cars. That one hour wait uses up some litres of your petrol too, y'know?

For that few ringgits, you jammed up the streets of Penang and causing other road users petrol wastage.

For that few ringgits, you joined the madness of the crowd - cursing at one another like some uncivilized fucks.

For that few ringgits, you're late for dinner with family and friends. I am not surprise if you canceled your appointments too. Whatever happened to your manners?

For that few ringgits, you braced the rain and sacrificed your sleep at 12:30am queuing for that damn oil *sigh*

For that few ringgits, you make me cursed you.

Fuck you.

Exams!

Oh dear. It's exam week already. Absolutely depressing.

Have figured out how to answer Media Studies' horrendous 1-line questions. Ha! Good thing about 1-line questions is that i can vomit lots and lots of stuff inside. It just takes a little bit of vomit-designing and that should do the trick. Have been checking out the past year questions and they're mostly repetitions, without even bothering to change the sequence of the MCQ answers. Essay questions mostly revolve around

  1. mediated sports
  2. the Truman Show (a brilliant movie, Jim Carrey)
  3. genre and intertextuality
  4. liberal theory of the press
  5. critical political economy
Dr Yeoh told us that the three essay questions are about i) sports ii) the Truman show and iii) news. So now we have to figure out what they're gonna ask us about i) ii) and iii). Bah.
