Y'know it's only November but i can feel Christmas in the air. Was ambling aimlessly in 1-U after a particularly rigorous and painful gym session (have not been there for 2 weeks X( blame it on the ISUs) when i saw a huge pile of Christmas decor loaded in a trolley in front of a shop. Throwing curious glances around, i realized that many of the shops have already erected their Christmas trees. Yup. Christmas is in the air!
Not that i have much Christmas celebrations to look forward to. Maybe only Aunt Heko's Annual Christmas dinner. Each year, there would be this fat (and really really dry) roasted and stuffed chicken. I absolutely detest dry chicken, so i normally wouldn't touch the chicken, but i would gobble the stuffing, which are goddamn marvellous! Mmm! On her heavy wooden table, there would also be banana and peach crumble, some freaky pasta, a truly massive bowl of salad drenched in olive oil + honey + dunno-what-else-dressing, shepherd's pie (v. nice.), one colossal and heavily decorated Christmas fruit cake (sickeningly sweet. sometimes drenched in rum) from some 5 star hotel, and lots and lots of red wine. Bleargh!
Aunt Heko and her bunch of cackling menopausal friends love red wine. They drink. And cackle. And speak in extremely loud boisterous voices. And bellow with laughter. I once pissed Heko off when i told her,
"I hate red wine."
"Oh. Someday you would come to like it."
"I don't think i will ever come to like it. It's gross. And it's freaking expensive. I mean, why drink red wine when u can get sparkling grape juice at 5.99 from Jaya Jusco?"
"!*@&^$!"
Of course, she made it a point to call my mum and complain about my apparent lack of sophistication, and also my katak-di-bawah-tempurung-ness.
Hmm.. I kinda miss having a Christmas tree at home. We used to have this glittering white one, on which we would hang a large number of shiny sparkling ornaments, and sprinkle bits of glitter and cotton on top. Also, we would arrange a few colourful fake presents under it. And it looked really Christmassy. But mum, who loved to throw stuff away, decided that it collected too much dust and is a waste of space and chucked it out. LoL. But then again... if you think on the negative side.. It is frickin annoying to be meticulously hanging plastic angels and horns and shiny balls on branches. Even more so when u need to clear up the cotton and glitter, that seem to cling on to the branches for an eternity. So. The best way is to just marvel at Christmas trees in shopping centres. =P
