Wedding!

Now. Pics of cousin's wedding at Hotel Istana KL. Hotel Istana is quite shabby for a five-star hotel. Gives the impression that it has been here for ages.

My napkin, with a little box containing two surprisingly delicious chocolates which i promptly consumed. :D

Now let's start off with the usual hot and cold combo starter platter.

This starter paled in comparison with the one i had back in my hometown. Clockwise from 1 o'clock: fake scallops on bed of cubed honeydew drizzled with thousand island sauce, grotesque green pea chicken-ball thingy wrapped with green flour skin, mini octopuses (loverly), fried chicken-ball thingy stuffed with beancurd and whatnot. Quite disappointing. The green pea thing was horrible. The fake scallops were fake, but tasted quite ok. Mini octopuses were good though.

Next up: the inescapable shark's fin soup with shredded chicken. Not v. good either. There was this alkaline taste to it which was most unappetizing. And who the hell puts shredded chicken inside shark's fin soup one! -_-"

Roasted Chicken with "Vegetable Crackers". That's what they said on the menu. The "vege crackers" turned out to be those tapioca crisps that ppl eat during Chinese New Year. Roast Chicken was quite alright. It had a salty and crispy skin, which i like. Nothing much to shout out about.

Once again, the inescapable broccoli and fat mushrooms. Fat mushrooms were scrumptious! Mmmm hmm! Very thick mushrooms into which you can sink your teeth.. Yeah!

During the entire freakin wedding, there were a troupe of monkeys veteran singers who performed a whole bunch of horrible horrible songs. The singers owned great voices, voices that were ruined by the horrendous selection of songs they sang.

Me, playing with my handphone. :D Was too bored. Apparently the wedding organizers arranged a looooong interval before each dish was served so that the guests can "enjoy" the "exciting performances".

This is the most wonderful dish served during the wedding. Glutinous rice with crabmeat. Oh my god it was freakin wonderful. The rice was just right, not too sticky and cloying. And they had this perfectly marinated chicken inside the rice instead of those cheaplak lap cheong chinese sausages they normally use in glutinous rice. Nono. This rice was the mostest most divine.

We also had this deep fried Australian garoupa served with sambal.. @_@ Anyway it looks kinda grotesque as its belly was already chopped into pieces for easy distribution. Fish is quite fresh, but definitely not as good as the one i had back in my hometown.

Next up is this strawberry and honeydew sago swimming in milky stuff coconut milk. Doesn't taste too bad but according to my aunt it was not thick enough.

Finally, Chinese pancakes with lotus paste. I suppose you know how it tastes like, so no comment.

So conclusion, the food wasn't all that good. The waiters/waitresses however have excellent service. They kept changing plates, refilling drinks and are all friendly.

Aaaand. Since sis was indignant 'cause i didn't upload any pics of her (you're so vain.. you probably think this song is about you, don't you, don't you, don't you...) and Thur. So here.

Some of you might recognize my mum if you've been waking up on Friday (or was it Sunday?) mornings to watch 8TV. She had a little slot on Hey Morning for her to cook stuff for the housewives to see.

Finally, a picture of the bride and groom. Congrats to Mun Seong and Wei (Lee) Leng. Btw my cousin sis loves really strange colours. The other day she wore this huge puffy dress in lime green. Then this blue frilly one. She later changed into a super bright yellow one.

suddenly i got this urge to write or rather... to type. but now i don't even know where to start. so, let's just begin with my working life. I'm in a new job again due to parental objection to the previous one.

i wudn't say this new job is boring. its HR anyway. it's the field i looked forward to joining prior to my graduation. but i wont deny that i miss the books. i miss the smell of new books... flipping thru the pages. ahh... the sense of satisfaction.

i miss talking to tens of customers a day. it feels good to be able to provide good service to them and at the end of the day, collect and sleep with the compliments showered on me during the day...

i miss most of the colleagues. i miss their jokes and laughter. i miss their cooperation and affection.

i miss walking around the outlet with a pen knife in the back pocket...

i miss browsing thru each and every book on the shelves during my free time...


but seriously, i gotta be frank... the colleagues i was working with for the past few months was part of the reason i left. we, the management trainees were not being respected by our more experienced subordinates. we are actually ranked second after the department head but we were treated like fools. and the politics they played in the office drove me to the edge.

we were not given authority in the job and we cant make any decisions without asking for permissions. how are we supposed to show our capabilities when we are not empowered to make decisions and without being dependent? i don't wanna mention names here but many times the far more experienced subordinates managed to drive me up the wall. i don't know about the rest but i cannot stand their mental retardation level at all.

btw, you talk to customers with a smile... not a smirk, you fools!

the manager asked me to stay. counter offer. said she would transfer me to the Queensbay's outlet if distance is my main concern. i still cudnt bring myself to tell her about my experience in these three months' time. she even asked me to go back if my new job doesn't suits me.

and, my parents was not happy with my previous working hours. sigh. what am i supposed to do? im happy and yet unhappy at the same time. i wanna stay and yet dont wanna stay.

as for my new job, today's my second day. keeping my fingers crossed. bosses are nice, colleagues are okay... hvnt really get to know them yet, get to online and chat during working hours, food are dirt cheap, toilet papers are provided (LOL!), the free lanyard is really cool etc. the only thing lacked is the friends part. im basically still all alone at the new place. well, gonna pray hard tis will turned out well.

as for my private life, nth much to update. i still miss the fella but that heart breaking phase is over i guess. tears only flows freely once in awhile. memories still linger vividly in my mind. many nights i dreamt of the days when we were one. i still miss you...

family's good. with my normal office hour job right now, i get to spend more quality time with them. doing everything together... dim sum, watch tv, dinner, shopping, supper etc. it's all good, really.

all in all, it's weird. never in my life i feel like tis before. it's total confusion. i dont know what's missing in my life. hmm, my best bet... "a person". haha.

i need more money lah. i wanna go for holidays. one different country each year. but how?!

My erupting wisdom teeth are getting on my nerves, literally. Everytime i eat something, i keep having this little spasms of pain at the back of my mouth which occasionally extends to my solar plexus. If that doesn't suck enough, each time i close my mouth i will end up biting my gums. During my last visit to the dentist he told me

"Wisdom teeth. Are they giving you any trouble? Any pain? No? Then just leave it. Come when they start giving you problems."

Now the problems are starting, god damn. Bout time i schedule another appointment.

Anyway last week was the most productive holiday ever! In terms of movies watched (11), that is. Back in my hometown i discovered this whole stash of DVDs in my cousin's room and i nabbed some home.

First. My only movie seen in a cinema.

Secret! 不能说的.秘密. Quite a good movie, for a first-time director. It has an array of beautiful piano scores, especially the ones during the piano-duel during which Jay Chou's character challenges the "Piano Prince". Secret is, as wingie said, one of the rare movies that actually show the characters' whole bodies (face and hands at least) while they are performing on the piano. No doubles here. V. cool.

Next up:

British black comedy Keeping Mum. Very British. Very dark. Very entertaining. Love Maggie Smith's performance as the murderous Grace Hawkins, with her calm and polite shall-we-have-a-cup-of-tea demeanour while she pummels her victims dead with shovels. Rowan Atkinsin losses his insane Mr. Bean antics and assumes a more sombre role of a clueless, humourless and sexually incontinent vicar.

Another entertaining one would be Steven Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can, a film about Frank Abagnale Jr. Man, that guy is a real faker, and really good at it. He posed as a French teacher back in high school, then a co-pilot, a doctor, later an assistant prosecutor, forging cheques while he was at it and eventually stealing $4 million. An amazing feat, given the fact that he managed it before his 19th birthday. A cop-chasing-criminal movie but a good one.

Rewatched Disney Pixar's award-winning Monsters, Inc. It was fun watching the blue-purple haired Sulley scare the screams out of little children to power up the monster city, Monstropolis. Still worth watching after six years. :D

I also watched the 90% black and white Sin City, starring the sexxxy Jessica Alba. Jessica Alba. Jessica Alba. Jessica Alba. Jessica Alba. Jessica Alba. Jessica Alba. Apparently this is very film noir but i still don't get it. Sin City is somewhat gruesome (lots of blood and gore and severed heads) but Jessica Alba makes it worth the watch. Skinny little Nancy. Oh yeah. She filled out.

Next on my list was Anger Management starring Adam Sandler as the unfortunate man who got apprehended (and tasered) for allegedly "assaulting" a flight attendant and consequently sentenced to anger management sessions. Nicholson acts as his insane anger management therapist.

Hmm. What else?

The Bourne Identity. I've never seen it before, though i have read the book. Since Bourne Ultimatum is screening soon, i wanted to know the storyline. V. thrilling movie.


Here it is. The academy-award winning Crash. Ensemble-cast film about racism and social tension. The word 'fuck' was used like a 100 times in this show. Insightful movie depicting how unreasonable and stereotypical some people can be. Well, actually most of the characters in the movie are blatantly racist..

Iconico burnt Ocean's 11 for me. Featuring Danny Ocean and his 10 recruit's elaborate robbery of a high tech vault under 3 casinos in Las Vegas. I suppose such a plan would be abortive in real life since impeccable timing is needed. Hmm.

Finally, i watched the unconventionally titled Thank You For Smoking. Nick Naylor works at the Academy of Tobacco Studies whose purpose was to research "links" between smoking cigarettes and health. Nick's job was to inform the public of these "links" as well as to defend smoker's rights. Hell of a hate-drawing job, i must say. Nick is one of those circuitous people who can fend off hostile verbal confrontations and manipulate them in his favour. These are the dangerous people around.

Those are the movies i watched during my holidays. I still have more than a dozen more: Babel, Hot Fuzz, Fight Club, Brokeback Mountain, Bourne Supremacy, Bridge to Terabithia and so on.
