I finally managed to lay up today! I've never previously done so due to my clumsiness and inability to dribble. But today, this glorious day, i have conquered all my insecurities and laid up! Wahaha! Everyone was so shocked and they stared at me for a few seconds and i thought i had committed a foul or something. Hmph.
Have just made myself some scrambled eggs with mushrooms.
It's high time i learnt to cook something for myself. I still remember my first egg-frying experience with sis. It was disastrous and we burnt the egg. It turned out burnt on the edges, and the rest a sickly gray colour (we fed them to the cats).
Anyway, scrambling eggs is now pretty simple, really, because i have a non-stick frying pan! The invention of the non-stick frying pan is just genius. I don't think i can scramble eggs in any other standard frying pan as it requires quite a lot of skill to prevent it from burning, but with the non-stick, my scrambled eggs are just beautiful.
And then the eggs. Argh. I don't get how those char kuay teow fellers are able to crack eggs with one hand. So efficient. So swift. So cool. They just sorta crack it, drizzles the egg in a circular motion into their woks, and with a few clanging of their shovels they are done.
Reminds me of the time Aunt Heko brought us to steamboat. I was quite young then and i kept insisting that they let me crack the egg into the steamboat and when i did, i threw the shells inside as well! And i can't risk having shells inside my eggs so I had to bang them on the sink and crack them into a bowl.
I think i cooked reasonably well, overlooking the fact that, in my attempt to be really quick and efficient, i'd spilled nearly half the bowl of egg. Ah well. Practice makes perfect. In due time i will be cracking eggs with 1 hand like a pro. All in due time. :D
