Bananas!

During my two-month tenure at Phileo Damansara 2, and after two to three weeks of eating the goddamn same cold economy rice, i came across this cool little cafe just round there corner.

Screaming Bananas! Cute name, don't ya think, and maybe a tad crazy? :D

Two screaming bananas guard the entrances! :D

Like some diners, they provide crayons for customers to doodle with. Instead of tablecloth, they line tables with large sheets of white paper. Fun! Especially for people with itchy hands. Like me. :)

Screaming Bananas serves some decent food. Not to say divine, but decent. They have a range of pasta, western grilled and fried dishes, along with a section of local favourites such as nasi goreng and nasi lemak (with jazzed up names).

The reason why i am holding back compliments is this!

The "Taj Mahal", which is basically steamed rice with beef rendang. And i hated the Taj Mahal. The cursed beef rendang was watery. What kind of beef rendang is watery? I suspect that they didn't microwave it properly AFTER keeping it frozen. Urgh.

Most annoying part was that, on my next visit with my CNX colleagues, YK ordered his nasi ulam with the same beef rendang (!) and when i speared a piece, it tasted all marvellous and non-watery. You say dulan anot?

Which says a little something about their QC. Bad QC!

Screaming Bananas has this lunch promo, which is a simple Entree + Drink combo. Add 5 bucks to that, you get a bowl of fantastic mushroom soup and the dessert of the day (which never changes, by the way).

My... Calamansi Plum. Slightly watery (!), but OK. Nothing to shout out about.

Grandma's Mushroom Soup. Or Mama's Homemade Mushroom Soup. Some funky name like that. This bowl of mushroom soup is kick ass, man! Fantastic. i was actually quite apprehensive and expecting those cheaplak Maggi watery (!!!) mushroom soups with pathetic dried mushroom bits you get at pizza hut, but no!

Grandma's Mushroom Soup was fantastic! It has a strong cheesy creamy taste and packs a pile of chopped up mushrooms in it. Two thumbs up. ;)

Sis's Spag Carbonara. Hmm. Ok ok laaaa. No big deal. This is nothing compared to those at Dave's and Frames.

This is the "dessert of the day", which never changes. I've been there for 3 times. Each time i got the same dessert. Anyway it's just a crepe wantan (with a teensie scoop of vanilla ice-cream wrapped within) with 3 little clouds of whipped cream drizzled with chocolate sauce.

I guess you can pretty much picture the taste in your mind? Whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce. You have to give them credit though, for coming up with a more interesting way of presenting 3 of the most cliched tastes in the world of desserts.

Their banana fritter is a whole different story. Delicious. After all, they have bananas in their name, should be a disgrace to screw it up right?

Looks kinda obscene, actually. Phallic object, with two spheres... Sometimes your mind just starts to... Anyway. Banana fritter. Very good. It has this sorta fragrance that is most appetizing. They drizzled the dessert with this light caramel syrup. Sprinkle in some peanuts and whoo-hoo here we go!

To sum up. Screaming Bananas is quite Ok. I have yet to sample much of their western menu as they are slightly more pricey and i can't freakin afford it, you know, as a tormented intern. Hmph. I get paid 30 bucks a day. And blowing off 30++ on lunch is major overkill.Hmm... But somehow it's not stopping me from going to Fridays/Chilis... xDxD
