Winter

Winter Warmers, at the Curve.

Highly recommended by Jes.

I would say that Winter Warmers is trying to create a very cozy, afternoon-tea sorta ambience. Once i came in the air was a strange combination of various tea aromas.

Woody furniture. Flowery tablecloth. Flowery china. Lots of tea. Scones and cakes and sandwiches in the menu. Reminds me of the Enid Blyton books i used to pore over as a child. Lady Downing, having afternoon tea. Sipping tea with her finger sticking out while the children frolicked in the garden.

Fruit tea punch, or similar. Served with thin wedges of lime, orange and apple. Comes in a min-jug with tiny little glasses. Though i suspect i can easily make one at home with the right ingredients, i like this. :) It has a refreshing fruity tinge to it.

Tea, anyone?

This is the supposedly "damn nice" dish that we came for. Garlic Deep Fried Chicken, served with sides of mayonnaised potato cubes and pasta vege salad.

Reasonably priced at twelve or thirteen bucks, the chicken was great, crisp yet succulent. But the "garlic" just wasn't there. The reddish gravy was similar to sambal, and a tad sweetish with the mildest of mild garlic aroma. I was expecting it to come wafting with heavenly garlic, crusted with garlic a la garlic bread, but oh well.

Lack of garlickiness aside, i wouldn't mind returning for this dish.

Rose coffee thingy. I didn't really try it. But it looks interesting, dried rose and all.

Pretty ironic that we all ordered iced beverages as we patronized Winter Warmers on a freakishly hot afternoon. Summer Coolers at Winter Warmers!

Now. Speaking of its ambience. Not villagey enough. The lightning is awkwardly bright for a cozy place. I think the Teapot Cafe in SS2 (wonder if they're still around) managed to grasp the cozy English tea place concept very well.

All in all, not a bad place to dine at.
